As was famously said in the film A Few Good Men

“Do you want the truth?”

“You can’t handle the truth?”

When it comes to staff turnover there is huge value in asking the agency that supplied the candidate to conduct an exit interview. There is the polite answer that will be shared internally but dig a little further and often a theme will appear or simply missed opportunities.

Recruitment is expensive. Time and money is spent inducting, training and paying a new employee. You’ve chosen them and they’ve chosen you, so why are they leaving?

Sometimes what you get back might simply be what you already know; they are relocating or changing direction in their career. But what if they wanted progression and felt overlooked and you could have developed them within the business, or perhaps there is a supervisor whose overbearing nature is frustrating and this needs to be addressed.

Yes it could be uncomfortable but knowledge is power and in this candidate driven market there isn’t always an equal contender and why would you want to pay twice?

We need to raise standards within the recruitment industry. This means ensuring that clients are aware of all the things we can offer and truly are working in partnership with your business.

A good recruitment consultancy measures retention, not simply placements.
